Name Changes Again For State Agencies

DBO to DFPI

On July 13, 2013 the Department of Corporations’ name was changed to the Department of Business Oversight and the Department of Real Estate was changed to the Bureau of Real Estate. On July 1, 2018 the name of the Bureau of Real Estate was changed back to the Department of Real Estate.

In 2021 a new bill AB1864 was passed and the DBO was changed again. This time to the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. This bill also enacted the California Consumer Financial Protection Law. This is obviously similar to the Federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau established by the Dodd-Frank Act.
