Job Interviews

Interview Performance

Your life will many times change up or down from your performance in a job interview.  Being involved in this process for years I do have one conclusion. The graduates of today have not been taught how to handle interviews.  Not before, not during, and not after.

This is a problem that should be addressed. I have a couple questions for readers.

  1. Have you noticed any situations where people have not conducted themselves properly in an important interview?
  2. Do you have any recommendations for improving overall performance in important interviews?

This issue will be very important soon for two sets of people. Seniors in high school and seniors in college. Let’s get them some sound advice now. If you have any comments or questions, please pass them on here. Let’s help students land that special school and help other students get a job in their major.

Dear Duane, kids nowadays are into tattoo, which makes them look ugly and unprofessional, so, either hide it or remove it. Always be on time or, preferably, arrive early and wait, that makes you look better. Dress professionally, wash your face and comb your hair so people would appreciate you took the time. Practice using correct vocabulary and especially, try not to use the word “like” in every sentence. Be polite, courteous, listen and then answer.

      Hi George,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I agree with all your comments and we could both add more. Check our website before coming in; remove any improper posts from Facebook, etc., be sure to ask some questions, listen before talking, and so forth. Disagree somewhat on the tattoo comments. I hate tattoos, that was only bikers in my generation, but in today’s market we would miss out on some outstanding workers if we had a no tolerance rule on tattoos. We have to also change in these changing times. BTW, I am a very old senior citizen and I have now hired several workers with tattoos and they are outstanding.
