A week ago, we purchased a range, dishwasher, refrigerator, and microwave for a vacant home. We selected a local retailer because we received excellent service in the past, and their prices were better than others, including the National Association of Realtors (I got the email telling me that NAR is now in the retail business). And we assumed that we would get better service locally.
We received a notice of delivery the following day at 9:29 AM. The exact time was appreciated, as many times delivery services will give me a 6-hour window, and I am sitting in a vacant home waiting.
At that time, there was no delivery, but I got an email that Adrian would be there at 10:00 AM. At 10:00 AM, no Adrian, but they posted a chart with a countdown starting at 15 minutes. It counted down perfectly, and at the end, no Adrian, but a note that said Adrian is coming soon.
It gave me a number to call if I had any questions, so I called. My first new Robot friend said, “I am Elsie, your Robot Assistant. I am new at this, so please be patient. Well, Elsie could not help me, so she forwarded me to her Supervisor Robot. They said that deliveries were assigned to different independent contractors. Adrian has my purchases and will be there soon, around 12:00 PM. I had another delivery at that time, so I stayed.
No Adrian at 12:00 PM, and no one answered any phone numbers I was given. They said that I had to contact MPL, and there was no answer. Finally got another email that said 1:00 PM. Nobody at 1 o’clock, but another email that said 2:30 PM.
Finally, at 2:30 PM, the famous Adrian arrived. I had to ask him, “How did you get to be 5 hours late?” He said that he had been making deliveries at other places since 8:00 AM and was right on schedule according to his dispatchers. AI had been lying to me.
Footnote: About 2:30 PM, another truck arrived with the refrigerator. Adrian only had the other three appliances. They send one truck with easy plug-in items like refrigerators and farm out the items that need some installation work. Don’t ask me, I only bought them. I had received no notice of another truck, and I was only at the location because of the problems.
Another Footnote: I received a text the following day from Ritchelle, who said that she was my Consumer Advocate, and I should call her with any problems. I called three times and received no callbacks. She sent two more texts alerting me and then a text that said, “Since she had received no calls, my advocacy was being closed”.
Final Footnote: The microwave did not fit, so it had to be returned. That is a question for another day. Next time, I will call NAR.
