Yesterday was the Super Bowl. Seattle won, by the way, but today is Discuss Super Bowl Ads Day. A yearly event, and yes, I watch the game with a legal pad.
The best review of the ads is always done by USA Today. They use large panels of writers, critics, and regular people. I think they are good because I agree with them most of the time.
The top five, according to USA Today, are:
- Budweiser – “American Icons”
- Lay’s “Last Harvest”
- Pepsi – “The Choice”
- Dunkin’ – “Good Will Dunkin'”
- Michelob Ultra – “The ULTRA Instructor”
The lowest rated #54 was Coinbase – “Everybody Coinbase”. Good music, but only text
I agree with the Budweiser commercial with the Eagle and Clydesdale, Lays, and Dunkin’ Donuts as the best. I also liked The Budweiser Keg rolling down the hill, Rocket and Redfin – “America Needs Neighbors Like You”, and Adam Brophy for Turbo Tax, stating that he only does dramatic, and USA Today thought that it was 27th.
Opinions vary greatly on these ads. The following are the number ones from many sources. People – Dunkin’ Donuts, Yahoo – Hellman’s Neil Diamond Mayo with Andy Samberg, CBS-Google.com New Home, New York Times-Clooney for GrubHub, and Independence.com liked the Ben Stiller Instacart ad.
And I admit that after watching 59 Super Bowls on television, I am extremely partial to Clydesdale ads. They are beautiful animals, and so many of the commercials are filmed in snow. In case you might think that I am fixated on the ads, I really can watch the game because I watch solo with DJ working on her latest puzzle till commercial time and the halftime show.
Interesting moment in the final minutes for the betting people. Seattle’s defense had played a great game, so the straight bet was done. Under betters had a very rewarding first half with only 9 points being scored, and their 45 under was looking solid. Then, with less than 2 minutes in the game, the score was 29-13, and Seattle had the ball. Kenneth Walker III busted a 49-yard touchdown run.
For a few seconds, there were betters all over the country screaming for joy or just screaming. 29 + 13+ 6 equals 48, and the overs win and the unders lose. But a Seahawks lineman was definitely holding. That was a real turn of events. Losing to Winning to Losing in seconds. The Life of the Lonely Better. Some of these people had the rent money on the game. The NFL season is finally over. Local San Clemente boy Sam Darnold wins, Seattle gets revenge for their last loss to NE, Defense still wins important games, and I can’t wait to hear all the radio pundits and the Times Bill Plaschke talk about their predictions. And I learned that the Under/Over is a more interesting and rewarding bet. Go Packers.
